About the Specialist Outreach Service

The Specialist Outreach Service,  based at Priestley Smith School,  supports Children and Young People (CYP) with vision impairment 0-19 (25 in some cases) across the whole of Birmingham under a Service Level Agreement with the Local Authority. Services to CYP VI educated within Birmingham are free at the point of delivery. 

There is also a limited chargeable traded services offer for those who do not meet the service eligibility criteria,  including for students in Further Education colleges, Students in higher Education Establishments, like University and those with disabilities other than vision impairment.

It comprises three distinct areas of support,  Habilitation, ( Orientation and Mobility and Independent Living Skills Training),  Reprographics, ( Braille and Tactile Diagram production) and Specialist VI Technical Services (  Repair, training and support for specialist adaptive devices, hardware and software used by children and young people with vision impairments).
