My Future, My Choices

At Priestley Smith, your future matters.

You have the right to careers education, information, advice and guidance that helps you understand yourself, discover different opportunities and make informed decisions about your future.

​

Your careers programme will be adapted so that you can participate meaningfully.

I will learn about myself

You will be supported to think about:
What am I good at?
What do I enjoy?
What skills do I have?
What would I like to become better at?
What is important to me?
What are my aspirations?
What support might I need?

I will learn about careers and the world of work

You will have opportunities to learn about different jobs, different workplaces, employment sectors, skills employers value, qualifications, local employment opportunities, changes in the world of work, salaries, volunteering and different ways of working.

​

I will meet people

You will have opportunities to meet employers and employees; college and training providers; apprenticeship providers; careers advisers; former Priestley Smith pupils; role models; and people with lived experience of vision impairment in employment and adult life.

​

I will explore my future options

Depending upon your individual pathway, you will be supported to explore Further Education, Specialist Colleges, Supported Internships, Apprenticeships, Training, Higher Education, Employment, Supported Employment and Volunteering.

​

I will experience the world of work

You will have opportunities appropriate to your age and pathway to experience workplaces and learn directly from employers and employees. These experiences will help you understand what workplaces are like, develop skills and explore whether particular careers interest you.

I will receive personal careers guidance

You will have opportunities to discuss your future individually with a careers adviser. Your guidance will take account of your strengths, interests, aspirations, needs and possible next steps.

​

I will be involved in decisions about my future

We want you to have a voice. Your views, interests and aspirations should inform careers and transition planning.
